
ABOUT ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR DANIEL WORTHLEY:
Gastroenterologist
MBBS Hons (Adel), PhD, MPH, FRACP
Dan is a leading Gastroenterologist at Colonoscopy Clinic. He is also a researcher in the field of colorectal cancer, and a board member of the Jodi Lee Foundation, a colorectal cancer charity.
Dan sees and helps patients and performs endoscopy and colonoscopy. He shares responsibilities for managing the practice and develops new science collaborations across the world. He is driven to make colonoscopy more convenient, affordable, reliable and excellent, and a future where no Australian dies of bowel cancer.
Areas of professional interest to Dan are colorectal cancer prevention, gut health, familial cancer syndromes and colonoscopy delivery.
His understanding of biology, and desire to help the community and create something new motivated him to enter the medical profession.
He achieved a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Science with Honours (MBBS Hons) at the University of Adelaide in 2000, he became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2006, and received a PhD in 2010 and a Master of Public Health (MPH) in 2011, both at The University of Queensland.
Dan trained in general medicine and gastroenterology in Adelaide. While completing his PhD and MPH in Brisbane, he worked as a consultant Gastroenterologist at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
He spent four years as a post-doctoral researcher at Columbia University, New York, in the labs of Professor Tim Wang (previous AGA president) and Professor Siddhartha Mukherjee (Pulitzer Prize winning author, scientist and oncologist).
Upon his return to Australia in 2014, he worked as a laboratory head at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute and then as a consultant Gastroenterologist at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre, and in private practice.
He moved to Brisbane to become a partner in Colonoscopy Clinic in 2019, and enjoys working as part of a team of talented people committed to helping their community.
During his time in the USA, he ran two New York marathons. He has his sights set on making it a hat-trick.
