Brisbane Endoscopy Services – McCullough Centre, Sunnybank

Brisbane Endoscopy Services (BES) was established in 1987.

‘Open Access’ colonoscopy and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy are offered at BES, operated by Dr Michael Miros and Dr Hugh Spalding, combining services with Southside Endoscopy.

Dr Michael MirosDr Michael Miros MBBS (1st Class Hons.Qld) FRACP

Dr Miros graduated from The University of Queensland with First Class Honours in 1982 and did his physician training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital becoming a gastroenterologist and physician in 1990. Following this, he worked overseas at The Kings Hospital, London working in the Liver Transplant Unit.

Currently Dr Miros’s main research interests are Barrett’s oesophagus with the use of magnification upper endoscopy to detect early dysplasia and screening colonoscopies to prevent colorectal cancer. He has been instrumental in the development of using Indigo carmine (blue dye) spraying of the colon using a specialised technique to improve the detection of colorectal polyps.

Dr Miros visits at the Southside Endoscopy Centre, Brisbane Endoscopy Services in the McCullough Centre and Chermside Day Hospital, Chermside. He currently performs upper endoscopy magnification upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, polypectomy and the use of chromoendoscopy and Given Enteroscopy Capsule Studies to detect small bowel pathology.

Dr Hugh Spalding MBBS FRACP PhD BVSc

Dr Hugh Spalding MB BS FRACP PhD BVSc

Dr Hugh Spalding graduated from the Melbourne University medical school in 1996 and completed physician training in gastroenterology and hepatology with rotations in Brisbane at the Mater Adult Hospital, the Princess Alexandra Hospital and the Gold Coast Hospital.

His interests include general hepatology, luminal gastroenterology and endoscopy with a focus on inflammatory bowel disease. Prior to medical training Dr Spalding studied veterinary science and completed a Ph.D. on aspects of the immune system. Other interests include bushwalking, music, woodwork and fishing.
